Far-Right Influencers And The Platforms That Enable Them
WHAT TO FIX and The London Story invite you to The Hague for a report launch followed by an expert panel reflecting on how social media platforms can better protect vulnerable communities.
In their new report, In the Name of Cow: State of Haryana Dispatch, The London Story explores how extremist activity on social media manifests as real-life violence in India’s Haryana state and beyond.
Since 2014, 53 people have been killed and 93 have been injured in cow vigilante attacks in India. Lynchings and violent attacks against religious minorities accused of consuming cows or transporting them for consumption is not an entirely new phenomenon; but in their report, the London Story’s shows how vigilantes are now using social media to mobilize and justify violence against Indian Muslim communities, as well as leveraging their influential status on social media towards real-life political gain. This is an urgent case study exposing how social media platforms help enable and multiply extremist influence.
The report launch will be followed by an expert panel to discuss far-right influencers on social media at the global level.
