Policy Lead (HIRED)
WHAT TO FIX is looking for a Policy Lead to join its small and mighty team and support its work to address the root causes of misinformation, disinformation, and online hate.
This assignment will support the Executive Director and Investigation Lead with WHAT TO FIX’s Platform Monetization project. The role will be responsible for helping shape a global conversation around bringing meaningful transparency and oversight to social media ad revenue share programs.
The project builds on a unique trove of data, collected over 4+ years, which makes up the Meta Publisher Archive as well as WHAT TO FIX’s existing research into monetization programs and their impact on the information environment, as outlined in our latest report From Content to Payment - the Rise and Implications of Social Media Ad Revenue Sharing.
You can expect to
- Conduct research and draft reports, as well as advocacy and briefing materials;
- Connect with, coordinate, and brief advocacy partners, decision-makers, and the media;
- Help strategize and operationalise a multi-stakeholder working group on social media monetization;
- Contribute towards the design of principles on transparency and accountability in monetization;
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Investigation Lead to coordinate a multi-pronged strategy.
Required skills and experience
- Direct experience dealing with challenges to the information environment, as a policy analyst, journalist, researcher, activist, fact checker, marketing professional, or platform worker;
- Familiarity with the EU policy landscape (US desirable);
- Solid English writing skills, with experience producing high-quality public-facing outputs including reports, analyses, policy briefs, memos, and position papers;
- Excellent ability to work collaboratively and coordinate with others from diverse backgrounds;
- Pro-activeness and resourcefulness - marked by a can-do attitude, creativity, and a propensity to manage up.
